2023 Mediterranean Cruise Day 2 - Rhodes, Greece

In this two minute video, I'm just sitting on my on my balcony listening to the waves crashing against the ship and meditating on how great life is.

Short video of panoramic view from port at Rhodes.

Some pics from the panoramic video for a closer view.

Since this was my first time to Rhodes, I decided to do a Highlights of Rhodes tour. The next three short videos are taken from the beginning of the tour and you will hear the tour guide as he narrates our tour.

Our guide talking about the large Jewish community in Rhodes.

Our guide explains the significance of various buildings on this video.

Random street views.

In this video, our tour guide tells us that there is no pollution or crime in Rhodes. The yellow building is the Marine Aquarium. You can also see Turkey in the distance at the end.

Our extremely humorous tour guide.

In this video, our tour guide discusses the Diagoras of Rhodes (ancient Greek athlete), the Rhodes airport and the soccer team. This video features a scenic ride, great history and lots of humor.

The Watergate Complex. Look familiar?

In this video, we are learning more about Rhodes from our tour guide. He also discussed banking and taxes.

In this video, our guide continues to give history about the early days - including Italians loving Greece and what they did to build Greece. Also discussed Nazis coming, then the British and the Paris Peace Treaty in 1947.

Can you guess what kind of bird this is?

I absolutely fell in love with this cobblestone walkway to the Acropolis.

This video shows us climbing those cobblestone steps to reach the Acropolis.

Whew. Made it to the top.

These pictures were taken inside the church.

This video is taken inside the Hospitaller Church of Our Lady Phileremos. Our tour guide provides history on the church and points out interesting facts and symbols.

At the Ancient Temple of Athena.

Me at the top. What a view!

The short video below is taken inside the Byzantine Fortress.

These were taken as I was leaving the fortress.

As we are heading to our next destination, our tour guide expounds more humor as he talks about his grandparents and smoking. Hard to see the views but the conversation is amusing.

Short video of our tour guide humorously talking about Covid in 2020.

I took this picture because although this is clearly a construction site, it looked somewhat statuesque.

Random street view.

We are headed to the Grand Master Palace. The Palace is located in Old Town Rhodes. This palace was the residence of the governor and was the administrative center in the Medieval times. It was constructed in the 14th century by the Knights of Saint John, and is known for its spherical towers and arched gate.

These pictures were taken at the Grand Master Palace.

The meaning of this symbol is "My Power Shall Reign Over Rhodes."

This view was breathtaking.

The next two short videos were taken inside the Palace.

Our guide translating the sign for us.

Mosaics

If you are into mosaics, you will love the next section of pictures. See the tiles behind the signs.

I had to capture these statues while viewing all these gorgeous mosaic tiles.

Amazing detail on these vases.

Medusa Mosaic Tile

This detail on this replica was amazing. The description is included.

Preserving the mosaic floor in this room.

Outside view from the inside.

Looking out one of the doors.

Another gallery of pictures.

The door to the Consulate.

Ro Ro's Photo Gallery - Rhodes

In this section you will find a gallery of photos, courtesy of my daughter, Roneshia, aka Ro Ro. She does her own thing on this trip and has agreed to share her photos of Rhodes with us.

The first pic in this gallery is of the one and only.......Ro Ro.

Enjoy the views.

You will note that some of her pictures look similar to mine. That is because we did visit some of the same places on our separate excursions. Thank you Ro Ro.

Finally back at the ship and I am exhausted.

Very short video of us leaving Rhodes.

Well this completes our second day in Rhodes, Greece. There is so much history in Greece and I thoroughly enjoyed my visit to Rhodes.

Stay tuned for Day 3 as we will be spending the day in Bodrum, Turkey.
